The plan, consisting of 280+1 projects, aims to reshape the region and significantly improve the quality of life for residents and visitors. Attica Regional Governor Nikos Hardalias presented the ambitious program during the region’s first “Athens Talks” conference, held on Tuesday. During his presentation, the governor highlighted that the projects would address modern needs for sustainable development, social cohesion, and resilient infrastructure to combat climate change. According to Hardalias, the full scope of the program, comprising both large-scale and local projects, is designed to improve everyday life across the region, with a clear focus on creating a model of development that could be an example at the national and European levels. Why “280+1” Projects? Governor Hardalias explained that the “+1” refers to a unique and emblematic project: the “AENAON, the Open Mediterranean Park” of Faliro Bay in Athens. He underlined that the park, expected to be a landmark for the region, deserved special attention. “The +1 is special,” said Hardalias, “This is the project Attica truly needed.” Categories of projects The 280+1 projects are organized into several categories, which target vital sectors that will help transform Attica into a modern, resilient, and sustainable region. It will also feature spaces for cultural and sports activities, including bike paths, multi-purpose exercise areas, and child-friendly educational facilities. Fire Protection Network: A new firefighting network will be built across 20+ kilometers of urban and suburban areas, improving safety in settlements within forested zones. Three Road Safety Projects: Improvements include new unmarked crossings, electronic monitoring systems for traffic violations, and the installation of LED lighting in underpasses to enhance safety. Urban and Suburban Parks: The unification of large parks, including Attiko Alsos, Pedion tou Areos, and the Metropolitan Park “Antonis Tritsis,” will create green corridors that promote sustainable development. Urban Health Centers Network: The construction of up to 10 primary healthcare centers, starting in Perama, Erythres, and Fyli, equipped with modern medical equipment. Pedestrian Bridges in High-Risk Areas: A network of pedestrian bridges will be built in central Attica, focusing on high-risk accident zones. Five bridges will be erected by March 2025. Kifissos Avenue Road Safety Improvements: Vehicle interception systems will be installed along 55 km of Kifissos Avenue, improving safety from Faliro to Nea Filadelfia. In addition to these projects, the Governor announced a major intervention at the Skaramangas triple junction, which will address key traffic issues in the region. This project will be funded by the Ministry of Infrastructure & Transport with a budget of 66 million euros. Looking ahead Governor Hardalias highlighted that the Attica regional authority is committed to transparency and accountability. “The 280+1 projects announced today have the personal stamp of Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis and will be tracked through the Project Observatory, allowing citizens to monitor progress in real time starting in 2026,” he said. With clear timetables and secured funding, the regional authority of Attica is confident that the projects will transform the region and enhance the quality of life for all. As Hardalias concluded: “We will always talk with actions, not words. We are committed to implementing these projects with transparency and efficiency.” Join the 15,000+ travel executives who read our newsletter Follow GTP Headlines on Google News to keep up to date with all the latest on tourism and travel in Greece.
