On Tuesday in Athens, Attica Governor Nikos Hardalias and Île-de-France President Valérie Pécresse signed a Protocol of Understanding and Cooperation to implement climate crisis measures. The signing followed a meeting in the fall of 2024, where both leaders agreed to collaborate on sustainable urban development. Through this partnership, the two regions will exchange expertise, promote cooperation with European and international public and private entities, and support local authorities in accessing funding for necessary climate adaptation investments. We must address the challenges of climate change, both in Greece and France, and for that, we need to identify and adopt the best practices,” Pécresse said during the signing. Pécresse added that she and Governor Hardalias plan to unite all European regions in their efforts, fostering collective action for green transformation. She also extended an official invitation to Governor Hardalias to participate in the International Sustainable Urban Planning Fair (BAP) in Versailles in May 2025. Emphasizing the role of regional governments, Hardalias noted that regions should be viewed as key drivers of development, capable of addressing the daily concerns of citizens. The first event to launch the new collaboration between the regions will take place in Île-de-France.
