Festive Fun at Athens’ Christmas Village: Free Events at Pedion tou Areos Park

The Christmas Village at Pedion tou Areos Park in Athens has officially opened, welcoming visitors and residents to a festive holiday setting filled with a variety of activities.

Until January 7, Attica’s largest urban park will transform into a festive wonderland, featuring a state-of-the-art ice rink, a grand carousel, and a food booth offering Greek traditional drinks and festive delicacies. Visitors can also explore forty wooden houses filled with handmade creations, gifts, and Christmas decorations.

The Christmas Village festivities officially kicked off on December 8, inaugurated by Attica Governor Nikos Hardalias. The event drew 12,000 visitors who enjoyed a spectacular concert by Eleni Foureira and Giorgos Perris. A dazzling drone display and an impressive light show added to the magical start of the Christmas season.

Opening hours and events

Passing through a glowing gate, families, children, and adults can enjoy free concerts, educational activities, and impressive shows from 4:30 pm to 10 pm on weekdays and 10 am to 10 pm on weekends.

Strolling along brightly illuminated paths, visitors can explore the park’s key attractions, including creative spaces for children with workshops and games, Santa’s sleigh, and booths offering commemorative photos and face painting.

Combining education with fun, children can visit the Santa Claus House, while the Robotics and Recycling Houses provide unique insights into technology and the importance of recycling. Young visitors can also enjoy themed installations featuring the Christmas tree, mistletoe, and the Star of Bethlehem, along with interactive Nutcrackers and creative face painting.

Highlights

Renowned Greek artists, alongside the Hellenic Army Band of Athens, will perform nightly on the main stage and two smaller stages, offering a rich artistic program for all ages. Additionally, six concerts will pay tribute to notable Greek composers and artists.

Curated by the Attica Region, the program includes:

– December 13: A tribute concert featuring the greatest works of Greek composer Mimis Plessas.

– December 15: A musical journey dedicated to the golden era of Greek cinema.

– December 24: Children’s songwriter Tassos Ioannidis and a theatrical performance will transport kids to the magical world of music.

– December 27: Greek singers Glykeria and Dimitris Mpasis will delight the audience with a captivating concert.

– December 28: A modern children’s opera, inspired by the compositions of Greek musician Thodoris Lembesis, will be presented.

– December 31: Visitors will welcome 2025 with an unforgettable New Year’s Eve show featuring singer Christos Mastoras and the band Melisses.

During the holiday season, the two smaller music stages will host Christmas concerts featuring bands, street performers, saxophonists, dance troupes, and youth groups, offering a diverse repertoire. Interactive performances tailored for children of all ages will also be a highlight.
