In collaboration with the Democritus University of Thrace, Hellenic Train managers are currently participating in an advanced training program titled “Railway Safety: Principles, Processes, Systems, and Event Investigation-Management.”

The company is also involved in training initiatives organized by the European Railway Association (ERA) and the Greek Ministry of Infrastructure and Transportation.

Key training topics include:

– Safety Management: Focused on human and organizational factors.
– European Rail Traffic Management System (ERTMS): Planning and implementation of the European system for managing railroad traffic, introducing innovative approaches to railway operations.

Hellenic Train has implemented a comprehensive program to strengthen its communication systems. This includes:

– Driver Training: Specific focus on the use of the GSM-R communication system.
– Protocol Compliance: Regular inspections and evaluations to ensure proper application of communication protocols.

The company is also moving forward with the upgrade of its technological infrastructure. Half of the European Train Control System (ETCS) on the leased fleet has been reprogrammed, while the company’s owned fleet, including the ETR470 coaches, is now equipped with both the modern ETCS and GSM-R systems. These upgrades are nearing completion with the final stages of approval for the necessary applications.

Last week, a survey revealed that the best railway company in Europe is Trenitalia.

That same survey also revealed that Hellenic Train is at the 24th position out of 25 (the only surprise is that they actually didn’t rank on the 25th position).

Hellenic Train being owned by the Italian FS, where is the problem and why the service and the security in Greece is so bad?
