The MICHELIN Guide has unveiled its 2024 selection of Athens’ finest restaurants, offering both local food enthusiasts and international gourmets a comprehensive guide to the Greek capital’s exceptional culinary scene.

This year’s selection celebrates significant achievements, including one new entry in the “One Star” category, two new entries in the “Bib Gourmand” category, and four new entries in the “Recommended” category. These honors further solidify Athens as a rising star in global gastronomy.

MICHELIN stars are a prestigious rating system, symbolizing the highest levels of culinary excellence. The 2024 Athens selection reflects the personal experiences of MICHELIN Guide inspectors, who evaluate restaurants anonymously to ensure impartiality.

“Our inspectors were impressed by the efforts of an entire sector of the economy that is enhancing Greece’s global appeal and positioning gastronomy as a cornerstone of the country’s sustainable development strategy,” said MICHELIN International Director Gwendal Poullennec.

Delta, located at the Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Center (SNFCC), maintained its two-star status in the 2024 guide. Helmed by chefs George Papazacharias and Thanos Feskos, Delta also holds a MICHELIN Green Star, recognizing its commitment to sustainability and zero-waste practices.

Makris Athens by Domes, under the leadership of head chef Petros Dimas, earned its first MICHELIN star. The restaurant impressed inspectors with innovative dishes crafted from fresh, locally sourced ingredients, including produce from the chef’s own farm.

Makris Athens joins an elite group of Athens’ “One MICHELIN Star” establishments, which also includes Botrini’s, CTC Urban Gastronomy, Hervé, Hytra, Patio, Pelagos at the Four Seasons Astir Palace Hotel, Soil, Spondi, The Zillers, and Tudor Hall at the King George Hotel.

Green Star: 3 restaurants

Athens continues to showcase its commitment to sustainable gastronomy, with three restaurants — Delta, Patio, and Soil — retaining their MICHELIN Green Star status. This distinction highlights establishments that demonstrate exemplary environmental practices in their operations.

“These restaurants are pioneers in local sustainability,” the MICHELIN Guide noted. “From their sourcing of ingredients to their kitchen operations, every aspect of their approach reflects a strong eco-conscious philosophy, which they share with diners through their thoughtful presentations.”

Bib Gourmand: 6 restaurants (two new entries)

The “Bib Gourmand” category, which highlights restaurants offering outstanding quality at a reasonable price, welcomed two new entries this year: Akra and Pharaoh. They join Cerdo Negro 1985, Fine Mess Smokehouse, Jerár, and Nolan in this distinguished group, showcasing a diverse array of affordable yet high-quality dining options.

Recommended: 18 restaurants (four new entries)

Four new establishments earned a spot in the “Recommended” category for their exceptional cuisine: Dolli’s, Esthiō, Gallina, and Ovio. This brings the total number of “Recommended” restaurants in Athens to 18 for the 2024 selection.

Other “Recommended” venues include GB Roof Garden at the Hotel Grande Bretagne, Aneton, Varoulko Seaside, Le Pavillon, Linou Soumassis and Co., Veri Table, Merceri, Vezene, Sense, Okio, Seeds, Annie’s Fine Cooking, Simul, and Aleria.

Overall, the Athens MICHELIN Guide 2024 features 39 restaurants in the Greek capital, celebrating its exceptional cuisine.
