Athens is set to usher in 2025 with an unforgettable celebration at Syntagma Square on New Year’s Eve, Tuesday, December 31.

This year, the Municipality of Athens will present an exceptional musical journey and theatrical event titled “Rooftop of Time” (Ταράτσα του Χρόνου), created by renowned Greek rock musician and singer, Foivos Delivorias.

Athens Mayor Haris Doukas will join the artists on stage to count down the final moments of 2024. For the first time, the city will greet the new year with silent fireworks, while hundreds of drones will illuminate the sky above Syntagma Square, offering a mesmerizing performance to honor Athens, its rich heritage, and the arrival of 2025.

The evening’s festivities will begin at 10pm with a musical performance by the Philharmonic Orchestra of the Municipality of Athens, providing the perfect introduction to the celebrations.

Following this, the popular group Laternativ will take over, leading the first big party of the year. The dynamic radio duo of EnLefko 87.7, Stavros Dioskouridis and Panagiotis Menegos, will keep the energy high with an electrifying DJ set that will carry the crowd into the early hours of 2025.

Special event: ‘The Rooftop of Time’

Foivos Delivorias, alongside Natassa Bofiliou, Martha Frintzila, and Thanasis Alevras, will present a unique performance blending music, dance, comedy, and storytelling. This journey through Athens’ history — spanning from 1945 to 2025 — will capture the city’s evolution through popular Greek songs of each era.

The performance, written by Delivorias and directed by Angelos Triantafyllou, is a musical “time machine”, set in an impressive vehicle.

As the “pilot” and host, Delivorias will guide the audience through each era of Athens’ history, from the post-WWII period to the present day, searching for the essence of 2025. Along the way, the show will highlight the voices of iconic Greek singers, including Bofiliou, Frintzila, and Alevras, who will transform into key figures of each period.

The production also includes a 10-piece orchestra, led by Thymios Papadopoulos, with dancers choreographed by Evi Souli and performances by talented young vocalists. Footage from Greek films, documentaries, and historical events will serve as a backdrop, enhancing the experience and celebrating the changing landscape of Athens.

This year’s New Year’s Eve event is open to all, with a parallel performance in Greek Sign Language by interpreter Sofia Roboli. The entire event will be streamed live on the official Facebook page of the Municipality of Athens and its YouTube channel, ensuring that everyone can partake in this spectacular celebration.
