Greece has been identified as one of the top 2025 overseas destinations for UK holidaymakers, according to a new survey by American Express.

The survey, conducted by Opinium in November 2024, included 2,000 participants from across the UK. The findings reveal that 59 percent of people are planning international trips, actively discussing dates and locations. Meanwhile, 23 percent have already begun booking flights, transport, or accommodation for 2025.

“With 2025 fast approaching, many of us are eagerly looking ahead to getaways,” said Dave Edwards, American Express Vice President.

In Brits’ vacation plans for the year ahead, Greece has moved up to third place from fourth in 2024. Spain leads the list, followed by Italy, with France, the US, and the Canary Islands rounding out the top destinations.

Many survey participants also prefer holidaying within the UK. The survey identified London as the most popular staycation destination, with the Lake District coming in second.

Furthermore, 42 percent of sightseers are planning a city break next year, while 41 percent are planning visits to the seaside.

On average, those planning an overseas holiday expect to spend 1,753 pounds, with 27 percent anticipating higher holiday expenses in 2025 compared to 2024. Additionally, 50 percent of holidaymakers plan to use credit cards or rewards points to pay for their travels next year.

“Our research shows Brits are getting prepared and spending early with nearly two-thirds (62 percent) of those who have booked flights having done so earlier than they did last year,” Edwards added.
