As part of its efforts to boost hiking tourism, regional authorities have signed an agreement to modernize and upgrade an extensive 1,729 km trail network across the Peloponnese. The initiative was first introduced in November as part of the Environment Ministry’s “Creation of a National Network of Paths and Hiking Routes” project, which includes the mapping of trails and hiking paths throughout Greece. Advancing the Project To move forward with the “Upgrading and Enrichment of Existing Hiking Routes in the Peloponnese” project, Governor Dimitris Ptochos signed an agreement with Marinis Beretsos, CEO of the Development Organization Parnonas S.A. “The signing of this agreement marks the beginning of a transformation for hiking tourism in the Peloponnese,” said Ptochos during the signing. The project will include a range of improvements, such as cleaning and debris removal, installation of signage, development of digital infrastructure, and promotional activities. The work is expected to be completed within a year. “We are developing modern and safe trails that not only boost the local economy but also highlight our cultural heritage and offer visitors unforgettable experiences,” Ptochos added.
