The project has been approved by Greek Tourism Minister Olga Kefalogianni and will be funded by Greece’s Recovery and Resilience Fund (RRF), with a budget of 9.9 million euros. The Region of Central Greece proposed the investment as part of a national strategy to promote mountain tourism and ensure ski resorts operate throughout the year. The initiative is expected to reduce seasonality, support the local economy, and generate employment opportunities for the region. Project overview Located on Mount Tymfristos in Velouchi at an altitude of 1,840 meters, the Karpenisi Ski Center features five lifts and 18 slopes. With the approval of the investment plan, the ski center will undergo several key upgrades designed to enhance its infrastructure and extend its appeal to visitors during all seasons. This will provide an exciting off-season attraction for visitors year-round. Dry slope ski facility: A 1,520-square-meter dry slope, equipped with a 40-meter Tubby Evolution Neveplast slope, will offer skiing opportunities for beginners and children during the warmer months. New snowmobiles: Additional snowmobiles will improve winter operations, enhancing mobility on the slopes and offering more recreational activities for visitors. A map of the Karpenisi Ski Center. According to the ministry, Karpenisi is the fifth ski resort to receive approval for upgrades under the Recovery and Resilience Fund, joining other projects at Parnassos, Seli, 3-5 Pigadia and Anilio. Minister Kefalogianni highlighted that the initiative is part of a broader strategy to address seasonality and stimulate economic growth in Greece’s mountain regions.
