Photo source: Visit Peloponnese The Region of the Peloponnese is taking a significant step towards enhancing its tourism potential with the creation of a Destination Management and Marketing Organization (DMMO). The initiative follows the signing of a memorandum of collaboration with the Greek Tourism Ministry. The project will be supported by 650,000 euros in funding from the EU Resilience and Recovery Facility and includes the establishment of a Regional Observatory for the sustainable tourism development of the Peloponnese. According to the regional authority, the initiative aims to strengthen the management of tourism destinations by creating infrastructure linked to the National Observatory for Sustainable Tourist Development. “Our collaboration with the tourism ministry marks a new era for tourism in the Peloponnese,” said Peloponnese Governor Dimitris Ptochos. “We are laying the groundwork for the strategic development of the area to benefit both tourism professionals and local communities.” Peloponnese Governor Dimitris Ptochos. Photo source: Region of Peloponnese Key actions of the initiative The project will encompass several strategic actions, including: – Conducting research to assess and evaluate the current state of tourism in the region. – Developing comprehensive marketing strategies to promote the Peloponnese. – Structuring and organizing the DMMO to ensure efficient, results-driven operations that foster a competitive and sustainable tourism product. Enhancing tourism potential On his part, Peloponnese Vice Governor for Tourism Thanos Micheloggonas highlighted that the initiative will provide the tools needed to unlock the region’s full tourism potential. “This project fills critical gaps that have existed in Greece’s tourism planning, enabling us to create a cohesive and impactful strategy for the Peloponnese,” he said. The establishment of the DMMO is expected to significantly improve the quality of tourism services in the region, position the Peloponnese as a standout destination both nationally and internationally, and bolster the local economy by driving sustainable tourism growth.
