Cyprus-based air charter group Zela Aviation has announced a strategic partnership with the Municipality of Syros – Ermoupolis to establish new international connections at Syros Airport and promote the island’s tourism.

With 18 years of experience in the aviation industry and offices in the UK, Cyprus, and Greece, Zela Aviation has undertaken an important task to promote Syros, beginning a constructive partnership with the island’s municipality.

“I am delighted to support the Municipality of Syros – Ermoupolis as there are many opportunities for Syros to grow in popularity and tourism in the forthcoming years,” said Andreas Christodoulides, Chairman of Zela Aviation.

Established in 1991, Syros Island National Airport “Dimitrios Vikelas” provides convenient access to the stunning island of Syros and the surrounding islands. Spanning approximately 69,000 square meters, the airport features a 1,080-meter runway that primarily serves regional flights, handling around 35,000 passengers annually.

In partnership with the municipality, Zela Aviation aims to boost passenger traffic at Syros Airport with the support of Christianna Papitsi, Syros-Ermoupolis Deputy Tourism Mayor. The collaboration focuses on a targeted approach to tour operators and direct engagement with major airlines operating scheduled charter flights.

Additionally, through its subsidiary brand Zela Jet, the group plans to attract more executive private aircraft and helicopter flights to the island in 2025. Established in 2020, Zela Jet is committed to providing high-quality helicopter and private airplane charter services across Greece and Europe.

This initiative will allow more travelers to discover Syros, a Cycladic gem celebrated for its neoclassical architecture, vibrant arts scene, and crystal-clear waters.

Visitors can explore historical landmarks, savor local cuisine, and relax on pristine beaches while enjoying the island’s welcoming atmosphere. A year-round destination, Syros offers a perfect blend of relaxation and cultural enrichment.
