Since 2009, EBD has showcased Europe’s finest destinations to millions of travelers, as well as tourism professionals and travel media. Its lists often rank as the top search result for numerous themes on Google. The Greek island of Crete was ranked 19th among the top sunny escapes, offering a blend of delicious local gastronomy, outdoor activities, and premium accommodations during the winter season. “During December, the ‘worst’ month of the year, you are sure to enjoy at least 5 hours of sun a day (compare this with 1 hour a day in London) and temperatures reach an average of 17 degrees (63 F),” the report wrote. Crete’s pure olive oil, locally produced wines, a diet rich in fish and vegetables, and abundant sunshine are considered key to the health and happiness of its people. For activities, an afternoon sailing trip to Dia Island or a full-day tour of Heraklion are highly recommended as top things to do during a visit to Crete. Madeira in Portugal is ranked as the top European destination for sunny getaways, recognized for its ideal climate, diverse leisure and sports activities, and opportunities for rest and rejuvenation in nature-inspired or luxury hotels. Malta, the Algarve, Tenerife, Seville, Lisbon, Puerto de Mogán, Marbella, Nice, Porto Santo, and Positano are also featured on the list, inviting travelers to plan their next winter adventure.
