Running January 18-26, the fair is one of the world’s leading boat and water sports events, drawing significant international attention. The Greek participation at the event is organized by Enterprise Greece, with the goal of promoting Greek exports and enhancing the role of Greek shipyards in global markets. At the Greek stand, 28 companies are presenting their offerings, underscoring Greece’s strong maritime presence. Governor Hardalias visited the Greek stand over the weekend to highlight Attica’s importance in the sea tourism sector, reinforcing the region’s growing reputation as a yachting hub. During his meetings, Hardalias discussed the incentives available for businesses, government support for entrepreneurship, and ongoing infrastructure projects aimed at boosting the region’s tourism. He specifically referenced the rising interest from international visitors in the Athenian Riviera, the cosmopolitan islands of the Saronic Gulf, and the anticipated expansion of Piraeus cruise docks. “The domestic maritime tourism sector has significant growth potential, despite the fierce international competition,” said Hardalias. “Our strategic goal is to elevate Metropolitan Attica as a leading global tourist destination year-round, addressing modern challenges head-on.” Hardalias also met with several key figures, including Greece’s General Consul in Düsseldorf, the Mayor of Solingen (of Greek descent), and Ioanna Zacharaki, President of the European Network of Elected Greeks in Local Authorities. The governor acknowledged the vital role of the Greek diaspora in promoting Greece’s image and strengthening international relations. Highlighting the success of Attica’s tourism, Hardalias said that recent studies show that German tourists, in particular, are increasingly choosing the region, even during the off-season. The boot Düsseldorf exhibition, which has been held for 56 years, covers all aspects of marine recreation, with approximately 1,500 exhibitors from 67 countries. The event is expected to attract over 240,000 visitors, further cementing its importance in the global maritime tourism industry.
