As one of Athens’ most prestigious sporting events, the half marathon is an initiative by the municipality and the Hellenic Athletics Federation (SEGAS), designed to promote the city as a premier international sports destination. According to the municipality, this year’s event is expected to attract even more runners, thanks to a revamped route designed to enhance athletes’ experience. The new course eliminates uphill sections, offering a flatter and more gradual path that allows for faster performances while showcasing the city’s rich historical and cultural landmarks. “We hope this year’s Half Marathon, with its faster and more appealing new route, will be embraced by runners of all levels,” stated Athens Mayor Haris Doukas during a meeting with SEGAS President Sofia Sakorafa.
