Photo source: Growthfund The Project Preparation Facility (PPF) of Growthfund, Greece’s national investment fund, has announced the tender launch for the restoration and upgrade of the Olympic Athletic Center of Athens (OAKA). The project, valued at 11.5 million euros (excluding VAT), aims to modernize the complex and enhance its surrounding areas and perimeter fencing. Growthfund, which manages a diverse portfolio of state-owned enterprises, has tasked PPF with overseeing the project. According to an announcement, the initiative represents a key milestone in the effort to revitalize one of Greece’s most iconic sports centers. OAKA served as the main venue during the 2004 Summer Olympics and the 2004 Summer Paralympics. Project scope The primary goals of the project are to complete the final and implementation studies and execute structural restorations, landscaping, and safety upgrades within the OAKA complex. Specific focus areas include: – Sealing joints around the Central Olympic Stadium’s perimeter. – Addressing structural cracks in the velodrome area. – Restoring and landscaping the surrounding areas. – Redeveloping the Market area and restoring Pavilions. – Implementing electromechanical upgrades. – Designing and constructing a new internal road network between the velodrome and swimming facilities. – Creating climbing walls and shelters in designated areas. – Procuring and installing new fencing and security guard booths while removing the existing fence. Timeline and funding The tender deadline is February 25. Following contractor selection, the project is expected to be completed within 14 months. Funding for the project will come from the National Recovery and Resilience Plan “Greece 2.0”, supported by the European Union’s NextGenerationEU program. This restoration project is part of a larger initiative to comprehensively modernize the OAKA complex, with an overall budget of 111 million euros (excluding VAT). The broader plan is being implemented by PPF in collaboration with the Technical Chamber of Greece (TEE) and the Greek Ministry of Sports.
