Bookings from Austria to Greece for the upcoming summer season have risen by 25 percent, according to the Greek National Tourism Organization’s (GNTO).

This data was shared by the GNTO following its participation in the Ferien-Messe Wien 2025 tourism exhibition that ran January 16-19 in Vienna.

The organization attributes the growth to new air connections, increased seat capacity, additional flights, and a longer tourism season, further cementing Greece’s position as a “top summer destination” for Austrian travelers.

During the Ferien-Messe Wien expo, leading European tour operators informed GNTO representatives that Austrians favor destinations such as Athens, Heraklion, Thessaloniki, Halkidiki, Rhodes, Corfu, Chania, Kos, Mykonos, Santorini, Kalamata, Karpathos, Zakynthos, and Kefalonia. Notably, Heraklion and Rhodes will enjoy daily flight connections from Austria throughout the 2025 tourism season, which is expected to extend until November.

The GNTO, along with representatives from various Greek regions, took part in the exhibition to showcase Greece’s diverse attractions, capturing the attention of international tourism professionals and travelers alike.

Building on these positive indicators, the GNTO’s networking efforts with Austrian Airlines, Austria’s national carrier, led to significant announcements. The airline this year added Limnos Island to its flight schedule and revealed plans to increase seat capacity to Greece by 18 percent, expanding its overall schedule to cater to the rising demand for Greek destinations.

Currently, Austria is directly connected to 23 Greek destinations by flights, many of which operate from regional airports across the country, further enhancing travel accessibility.

The Greek delegation included representatives from the regions of Central Macedonia, the Ionian Islands, and Crete, as well as the Thessaloniki Tourism Organization (TTO), and the municipalities of Skiathos, Volos, and Pelion, along with other Greek institutions.
