Panathinaikos, one of Athens’ most historic football clubs, is moving closer to a long-awaited home. Marking the start of foundation works, Athens Mayor Haris Doukas visited the construction site on Monday, highlighting the project’s significance. “Panathinaikos was founded on February 3, 1908, and today, 117 years later, we are witnessing history being made,” Doukas said. “The team’s new football stadium is finally becoming a reality, with foundation works beginning today.” Progress and key developments Photo source: Athens Municipality The process of securing building permits is fully underway, following recent modifications to the original architectural plans to include an Olympic-sized swimming pool. Additionally, the surrounding landscaping, road network, and infrastructure are progressing, with extensive works set to begin in the coming days. “The new sports facilities, green spaces, and roadworks are moving forward rapidly,” Mayor Doukas noted. “We are committed to delivering a project that will inspire Panathinaikos fans and enhance the city’s urban landscape.” Athens Mayor Haris Doukas (second from right). Representing the construction consortium TERNA – MYTILINEOS – AKTOR, several executives attended the foundation laying, including TERNA CEO Christos Panagiotopoulos, INTRAKAT Vice President Anastasios Aranitis, and METKA ATE Vice President & CEO Dinos Benroubi.
