Air Travel AEGEAN May Extend Special Flights to/from Santorini Amid Seismic Activity by GTP editing team 4 February 2025 written by GTP editing team 4 February 2025 0 comments Share 0FacebookTwitterLinkedinWhatsappEmail 66 Greek carrier AEGEAN announced on Tuesday that it may extend its additional special flights between Athens and Santorini tomorrow, Wednesday, due to increased travel demand following recent seismic activity in the sea area near the island. In response to the circumstances, AEGEAN operated extra flights on Monday, February 3, and Tuesday, February 4, to accommodate affected passengers. On Monday, the airline operated a total of nine flights from Santorini to Athens — four scheduled and five additional special flights — transporting 1,294 passengers. For Tuesday, February 4, AEGEAN scheduled eight flights, including four regular and four additional flights, all operated by Airbus A320 aircraft with a combined capacity exceeding 1,400 seats. “Over the first two days, approximately 2,500 to 2,700 passengers were transported from Santorini to Athens,” the airline said in a statement. Due to the exceptional circumstances, flights arriving in Santorini carried only a small number of passengers, mainly government officials, while outbound flights to Athens operated at nearly full capacity. The fares for the additional flights ranged between 55 euros and 65 euros, including VAT and a 22 euros airport tax. AEGEAN stated that if the current situation persists, it is prepared to operate more special flights on Wednesday, February 5.
