At its fairly recent holiday awards ceremony, Thailand’s tourism minister honored the tour operators it considered the most important and best for Thailand’s tourism industry. On the top of the list was Amazing Holidays, a subsidiary company of Athens-based Cel Tours.

Athens-based private carrier Aegean Airlines won high honors at this year’s European Regions Airline Association’s airline of the year awards. The 83 airlines of the association selected Aegean for its bronze Airline of the Year 2000/1award. Skyways, Sweden’s largest regional carrier, picked up the gold award.

The first-class Cavo Tagoo hotel on the popular summer holiday island of Mykonos recently picked up yet another award for excellence. The most recent award came from the Greek tourism industry in general. It voted Cavo Tagoo as being the top first-class resort hotel in Greece.

Spain paid tribute to Greece and the Hellenic Tourism Organization during a recent ceremony held in conjunction with Madrid’s travel and tourism fair, Fitur. Guest of honour was the organization’s president, Yiannis Stefanides.

Twenty Greek tourism enterprises were honored at the 2nd Festival of Greek Tourism, organized by “Travel Trade Gazette Greece.” The plush event was held in December at the Athenaeum Intercontinental hotel.
