The Greek government is expected on Thursday to announce if new measures to contain the spread of the Omicron Covid variant will be taken before or after the holiday season.

Norwegian Cruise Line is expected to bring more than 200,000 passengers to Greece in 2022, according to an announcement by the Greek Tourism Ministry.

The European Commission adopted an extension to the airport slot relief rules of the 2022 summer scheduling season, running from March 28 until October 29.

The European Commission is proposing updated rules that will reinforce the Schengen area and ensure it is prepared to keep up with the evolving challenges.

All inbound travelers to Greece, regardless of vaccination status, must now present a negative Covid-19 test result taken before entering the country.

“Our aim is in 2022 to move forward with a full tourism restart,” said Greece’s tourism minister, Vassilis Kikilias, while speaking in parliament.

Tourism stakeholders are warning of a ‘holiday travel chaos’ due to the reintroduction of travel restrictions in response to the new Covid variant Omicron.
