A new on-line resort and hotel booking site, youtravel.com, was launched last month. So far 25,000 rooms are available in destinations including Greece, Spain, Turkey, Egypt, Malta, Cyprus, Tunisia, Portugal, Morocco, Bulgaria, Italy, Croatia, Dominican Republic and Dubai.

Hellenic Hotel Chamber President Gerasimos Fokas and Technical Chamber of Greece President Yiannis Alavanos signed a memorandum of agreement on seven critical issues that concern both the hotel and technical sector.

At a press conference last month, Makis Fokas, president of the Hellenic Hotel Chamber, said that tourism is on a roll this summer. “Foreign tourist arrivals are rising and may even reach a two-digit percentage.”

Greek ship owner Vasilis Kostantakopoulos’ large tourism development project in the Messinia Prefecture of Peloponnisos finally received all the permits required to get underway. The permitting process was complex and took many years to complete because of the numerous regulatory adjustments needed.

The bidding competition for long-term leases of two Xenia hotels, one in Tsagarada and the other on Thasos, has officially begun and offers must be submitted no later than October 18. Of those received, a short list will be selected and a closed competition will ensue. The leasing offers must include remodeling, repair and possible expansion of the existing buildings.

The Club Hotel Casino Loutraki will grant 500,000 euro over the next four years for restoration of the ancient temple of Zeus in Nemea, the Peloponissos. Last month, a sponsorship agreement was signed by representatives of the hotel and Berkeley University in the U.S., which will carry out the restoration work.

Domotel and its hotels, Les Lazaristes in Thessaloniki and Xenia Voulou, are sponsoring the Thessaloniki beach volleyball team, which stars Mariana Hounda and Mara Lazaridou.
