Recent airport arrival figures for the first four months of 2014, have confirmed the expectations of the Association of Greek Tourism Enterprises (SETE) that sees the country attracting a record 18.5 million visitors and generating 13 billion euros in revenues this year.

Greek museums experienced an 11.8 percent increase in visitor numbers in January 2014 compared with the same month of 2013, according to a survey on museums and archaeological sites attendance carried out by the Greek statistical authority, ELSTAT.

“German tourists are Greece’s most loyal and traditional guests,” the general secretary of the Greek National Tourism Organization, Panos Livadas, recently informed the state secretary of the Hamburg Ministry of Economy, Transport and Innovation, Dr Bernd Egert.

Greece is expected to welcome over 18.5 million foreign tourists this year with an estimated revenue of 13 billion euros, according to a study of Infobank Hellastat.

German arrivals to Greece were up by 7.5 percent in 2013 compared to the year before, according to data presented at a tourism event in Athens on 9 May.

Athens International Airport (AIA) saw the number of tourist arrivals soar by 28 percent last month, compared with the same month of 2013. Foreign tourist arrivals for destination Athens alone were up by 44 percent.
