The Hellenic Hotel Federation (POX) recently completed and submitted to the Greek National Tourism Organization, a study for the construction of boutique hotels. The study consists of prerequisites for the infrastructure and services of boutique hotels as defined by international standards but with Greek characteristics in mind.

According to the proposal, the term “boutique,” which would be attributed by the GNTO, entails hotels with up to 50 rooms, existing or new, irregardless of star category, that are characterized by, according to the chamber, “A warm family environment, particular architecture and design, personal service and exquisite cuisine, and use of new technology.”

The aim of the federation is to provide motivation for existing hotels of up to 50 rooms to upgrade their existing services, as well as encourage the construction of new hotel units.

The study is based on extensive research of worldwide hotel practice, interviews with specialists and a research field in Greece and abroad. Some 2,300 questionnaires were sent out as part of the study and over 70 hotels were visited.
