Professional yachts will be exempt from the extraordinary tax and annual special tax on yachts, inflicted by the previous government, by April 2010, according to Economy, Competitiveness and Shipping Minister Louka Katseli.

The minister recently met with representatives of the Greek Professional Yacht Owners Bareboat Association and informed them that the extraordinary tax and annual special tax would be charged on to private yachts once amendments are made to the current legislation.

In addition, the association also questioned the minister in regards to the upgrading of professional yachts through the National Strategic Reference Framework programs and the modernization of the legal framework for marine tourism. Ms. Katseli confirmed the government’s decision to change the legal framework for marine tourism by June 2010.
