Greek tourism will be promoted via 4,500 restaurants in the United States based on an initiative to be carried out by the “Alliance for Greece”* group, Deputy Culture and Tourism Minister George Nikitiadis announced at an event held at the Acropolis Museum in November 2011.

Under the initiative, Greek American food service cooperative Pan Gregorian Enterprises will print (at its own expense) seven million placemats with copies of artworks by 20 Greek visual artists. The placements will be placed on the tables of the restaurants of the Pan Gregorian group.

Two million placemats are to be placed on the tables of Pan Gregorian restaurants in New Jersey, New York, Connecticut, North and South Carolina and Maryland.

Mr. Nikitiadis said that other, similar, promotions for Greek tourism are under consideration such as the use of special stickers referring to Greek tourism in the windows of Greek restaurants, the Greek tourism logo on millions of plastic cups and the organization of a Greek gastronomy week in the U.S.. Similar promotions are planned to take place in Germany, according to an announcement by the Culture and Tourism Ministry.

* “Alliance for Greece” is an initiative of the Hellenic Advertisers Association with the support and under the auspices of the Culture and Tourism Ministry and the Greek National Tourism Organization that promotes tourism, culture and sport in terms of volunteerism and Corporate Social Responsibility.
