Fourteen tour operators from the United Kingdom that plan to expand activities in Greece were introduced to the Greek region of the Peloponnese during a familiarization trip organized 30 September to 10 October 2012.

The fam trip was organized by the Greek National Tourism Organization UK & Ireland in cooperation with the Laconia Hotel Association and aimed to introduce the Peloponnesian tourism product to UK tour operators and promote the region as a destination for Britons.

According to the Laconia Hotel Association, the tour operators expressed high confidence that Laconia remains a worthy, hospitable and safe tourist destination and intend to indicate this in the best possible way to UK travelers.

The association also thanked its member hotels that contributed significantly by providing free accommodation and meals to guests.

Destinations visited during the fam trip also included Mani, Sparti and Monemvasia.

In regards to Monemvasia, the municipality’s tourism promotion committee informed the tour operators on the highlights and advantages of the destination, ideal to be visited any time of the year.  The committee aims for Monemvasia to be considered a multi-day holiday destination.

It should be noted that the tour operators arrived and departed to and from the Peloponnese through Kalamata Airport. They considered the airport an incentive for the destination since it gave easy access to all areas in the region.

The UK is Greece’s second largest tourism market after Germany.
