greek_tavern_foodThe Association of Greek Tourism Enterprises (SETE) recently announced the start of the first phase of a three-year project that aims to unite gastronomy with the marketing of Greek tourism.

SETE’s project “Gastronomy in the marketing menu of Greek tourism” is based on a comprehensive study conducted in 2009 and sees to develop a “Greek” gastronomy brand and showcase Greece as an attractive culinary tourism destination.

The first phase of the project will include the mapping and recording of Greece’s gastronomic wealth. Funds to support the first phase are from sponsors.

During a presentation, SETE’s general director, George Drakopoulos, presented the immediate steps for the creation of a culinary portfolio of Greece and for an online portal, where visitors, Greek or foreign, could find the quality gourmet products of each region of the country.

Mr. Drakopoulos underlined that in order for the project to be completed as a whole and achieve the goal of attracting 500,000 extra visitors to Greece a year, additional resources were necessary.

He said the fundraising campaign to support the implementation of SETE’s marketing plan for Greek gastronomy would continue.
