Greece and Israel signed a joint declaration on tourism cooperation on 8 October, following a meeting between Greek Tourism Minister Olga Kefalogianni and her Israeli counterpart Uzi Landau that took place on the sidelines of the Interministerial Cooperation Council of the two countries that took place in Jerusalem. The joint meeting took place on the occasion of Greek Prime Minister Antonis Samaras’ official visit to Israel. During the meeting, emphasis was given to the promotion of joint travel packages to Greece and Israel from distant destinations such as the United States, Canada and China. The two sides agreed on the close cooperation of the tourism offices Greece and Israel operate in those countries while the important role of the Jewish and Greek Diaspora in enhancing this policy was highlighted. In addition, Greece and Israel decided to further boost bilateral relations to promote special types of tourism such as religious tourism and city breaks. Mrs. Kefalogianni invited her Israeli counterpart to visit Athens and suggested for a meeting to be organized between the tourism professionals of both countries.
