Thessaloniki To Welcome Passengers From New Destinations In Spring 2014

The Thessaloniki Tourism Organization welcomed the recent announcement made by Ryanair on the creation of a hub in the Greek Northern city.

“This move is a positive development in the organization’s efforts to make air travel more attractive to travelers, as it provides flexibility in the choice of destinations and cost of flights, while it creates new jobs,” the organization said in an announcement on16 January.

This April, Ryanair will open its second Greek hub in Thessaloniki with one based aircraft and three new routes (16 in total) to Athens, Pisa and Warsaw. According to the airline, the new routes will annually deliver up to 1.6 million passengers and sustain some 1,600 “on-site” jobs at Thessaloniki with up to 212 weekly flights.

The organization said it would continue efforts and approach other low cost carriers to attract more visitors to Thessaloniki, connect the city with more destinations and boost the economy by creating new jobs.

Direct flights to Thessaloniki planned from The Netherlands, Scandinavia

In Spring 2014, Thessaloniki will also be welcoming tourists from Amsterdam as, after years of no direct flights from The Netherlands to Thessaloniki, Transavia announced the launch of new flights to Macedonia International Airport. As of 17 April, the Dutch low cost carrier will operate a Amsterdam-Thessaloniki flight three times a week, every Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday.

In addition, SAS (Scandinavian Airlines) will launch direct flights from airports in Stockholm, Sweden (four times per week); Copenhagen, Denmark (twice per week); and Oslo, (twice per week) to Thessaloniki as of April.
