Hear the philosopher face his accusers with his trademark wit, cutting logic, and the courage of his ideals and then engage in a discussion on the direct application of Socratic thought and action to the world crisis. Αfter a successful tour in Australia and New Zealand, Plato’s timeless classic The Apology of Socrates will come to life with Socrates Now this summer beneath the Acropolis in Athens, Greece, for the third year, starring Emmy Award winner Yannis Simonides. An Elliniko Theatro* production, Socrates Now is a 75-minute solo performance that captures the essence of Socratic ethics in an accessible and engaging manner. The play features a delightful and quite humorous dramatization of the famous philosopher’s defense and his rebuttals to a guilty verdict and sentence to death. Ticket prices: 15-30 euros. After each performance, an interactive open discussion will follow in English, offering a unique “edutainment” experience for foreign visitors of Athens. Socrates Now has been presented in the USA, Canada, Great Britain, and Europe in diverse spaces such as the United Nations, the European Parliament, Harvard and Oxford Universities.
