Wine Spectator Magazine Honors Two Restaurants In Athens, Greece

The Greek restaurants GB Roof Garden of the Hotel Grande Bretagne and the Tudor Hall of the King George hotel, both located in Athens, were recently honored through the Wine Spectator magazine’s annual Restaurant Wine List Awards program.

Wine Spectator’s Restaurant Wine List Awards recognize restaurants whose wine lists offer interesting selections, are appropriate to their cuisine and appeal to a wide range of wine lovers.

To qualify for an award, a restaurant’s wine list must present complete, accurate wine information. It must include vintages and appellations for all selections, including wines available by the glass.

The two Greek restaurants are the only ones in Athens that are included in the Wine Spectator’s 2014 list for having the most outstanding restaurant wine lists in the world.

The Sommelier of both restaurants is Evangelos Psofidis, who has a knowledge and passion for wines and spirits.

He aims to display the largest wine-producing regions of the world through the wine lists of the restaurants and includes wines that accurately represent the characteristics of these areas.

Last year the GB Roof Garden was included in the list of distinguished wine lists and was among the 2,791 that received the “Award of Excellence 2013.” This year, the restaurant of the Hotel Grande Bretagne was awarded with the “Best of Award of Excellence 2014,” a distinction that honors it and sets the bar extremely high.

According to the magazine, this award was created to present the restaurants that exceed the requirements of “Award of Excellence 2013.”

The GB Roof Garden follows the philosophy of “food pairing wine” and believes that the ultimate taste experience can be achieved with Mediterranean dishes that are perfectly matched with fine wines.

The Tudor Hall Restaurant, located on the 7th floor of the King George hotel, received its award from its very first year of operation.

The Athenian restaurant was included by Wine Spectator magazine among those that offer wine lists with a variety of wines from many different regions worldwide and received the special recognition of “Best of Award of Excellence 2014.”

Wine Spectator is a lifestyle magazine and since 1976 focuses on the culture of wine. It publishes 15 issues per year and includes news, articles, and many comments and evaluations on wines. It was ranked by the Luxury Institute as the #1 among several business and consumer publications.
