Equality in the workplace

Equality in the workplaceThe country’s employee and worker bodies have joined forces with the International Labor Organization (ILO) to promote equality in the workplace through a series of nationwide activities and events to be held on Wednesday.

Under the motto “The World of Work Together for Equality”, events will take place in Athens, Xanthi, Thessaloniki, Trikala, Volos, Patra and Heraklio, and will lead up to the main workshop on March 12 at the General Confederation of Greek Workers (GSEE) offices.

Through the series of awareness-raising activities, national representatives of workers and employeesare expressing their commitment to ensuring that the national labor laws and agreementsforesee equal rights and treatment for all.

The activities come as part of a far-reaching initiative to highlight the significance of social dialogue and of finding ways to guarantee a society, which respects diversity through supportive institutions.

Aim of the March 4 events is to demonstrate that all of the country’s employee and workers’ unions are working together to ensure equality in the work environment.

The initiatives on strengthening social dialogue in order to combat prohibited by law discrimination in the labor market are part of a joint action plan between Greece and its social partners with the participation of ILO to “restore confidence and strengthen effective participation in social dialogue”, within the framework of the Human Resources Development 2007-2013 program.

The following workers’ bodies are participating in the initiative: the Greek Tourism Confederation (SETE), the Greek Workers Confederation (GSEE), the Hellenic Federation of Enterprises (SEV), the National Confederation of Hellenic Commerce (NCHC) and the Hellenic Confederation of Professionals, Craftsmen & Merchants (GSEVEE).
