Destinations news ‘Closer to Greece’: AEGEAN Puts Samos, Ikaria and Lemnos in the Public Eye by GTP editing team 7 July 2016 written by GTP editing team 7 July 2016 0 comments Share 0FacebookTwitterLinkedinWhatsappEmail 37 AEGEAN’s “Closer to Greece” initiative this month is dedicated not to one, but to three islands of the northeast edge of the Aegean: Samos, Lemnos and Ikaria. These three “star destinations” will be introduced to all domestic and international passengers. Samos For the whole month of July, the aircraft, websites and channels of AEGEAN and Olympic Air will be filled with the images, sounds, colors and flavors of the three islands. All passengers on all domestic and international flights, up to July 27, will get to know the history and the intoxicating scents of Samos wine, the unique character and tastes of Ikaria and the island of Hephaestus, Lemnos. Travellers will get an authentic taste of the rich culinary tradition of all three islands through products of local producers and cooperatives selected by AEGEAN to ‘travel’ across the network in July, such as the Winemaking Cooperatives Union of Samos, Biosamos (Samos ), Tsantiris (Ikaria), Chrysafis (Lemnos), Agricultural Cooperative of Lemnos. Limnos Passengers of economy class will enjoy the cheese types tyrokouloura kalathaki and melichloro from Lemnos and traditional finikia (cookie topped with chopped nuts) from Ikaria. Passengers on international flights will be able to choose between the wines Limnio dry red and Muscat Aroma Limnou of the Agricultural Cooperative of Lemnos. Additionally, two additional menu options, inspired by the products of the three islands, will be available for passengers in business class by chef Nikos Sarados: rooster in red sauce with Limnio wine and homemade flomaria (traditional pasta of Lemnos) and fresh fish from the sea of Ikaria with Samian wine. Another option for wine is the Samos Anthemis as recommended by Master of Wine Konstantinos Lazarakis. Ikaria Moreover, lemon and fig spoon sweets, strawberry and cranberry-orange jams, Rinio’s special spoon sweet from Samos, special snacks with Lemnos cheeses and Samos Anthemis wine swill be available in AEGEAN’s Business Lounges. AEGEAN will also screen local tribute videos with footage from the three islands on board and through other available channels of communication, so that more passengers can “travel” and discover the beauty, the flavors and the welcoming locals of Samos, Lemnos and Ikaria. Ask a local and win a trip! Also, throughout July and via the campaign’s website www.elladakonta.gr, travellers can ask locals of the three islands anything they want to know about the destinations: Pavlos, an instrument maker from Vathy (Samos); Chrysa, a surfer from Lemnos; and Nikolas, a baker from Ikaria, will answer all questions through video. Travellers that submit questions, automatically have the chance to become one of the three winners to receive tickets for two for Samos, Lemnos and Ikaria and discover the secrets of the island and the locals even better in person. “Closer to Greece” is a new initiative launched by AEGEAN that aims to tell the world why each of the country’s destinations are so unique. Every month a special tribute is paid to one or more domestic destinations of the route network operated by AEGEAN and Olympic Air. #elladakonta Follow GTP Headlines on Google News to keep up to date with all the latest on tourism and travel in Greece.
