Events Thessaloniki Night Run 2016 a Sports Party for All by GTP editing team 10 October 2016 written by GTP editing team 10 October 2016 0 comments Share 0FacebookTwitterLinkedinWhatsappEmail 29 More than 21,000 runners from Greece and abroad took to Thessaloniki streets on October 8 to test their limits during the 5th International Thessaloniki Night Half Marathon. The annual night run was more of a sports party with guests from all walks of life including Olympic champions, long distance athletes, Paraolympians, students and running enthusiasts from 61 countries. The 21.1km race started at sunset from the city’s port on Nikis Avenue and came to a close at the landmark White Tower and also included a 5,000m Health Walk. Antonis Papadimitriou crossed the finish line first in the men’s category with a time of 1:9:52, Michalis Parmakis second in 1:10:55 and Gerasimos Grivas clocking 1:11:22 came third. In the women’s category, Sonia Tsekini came in first in 1:21:45, followed by Vicky Karageorgaki in 1:22:53 and Irene Michala in 1:27:34. The Thessaloniki Night Half Marathon was organized by local sports federation MEAS Triton in collaboration with the municipality and is under the auspices of the Hellenic Amateur Athletic Association (SEGAS) and the Association of International Marathons and Distance Races (AIMS). Organizers invite all sports lovers to the 12th Alexander the Great International Marathon set for April 2 next year.
