Event News SETE’s 16th Conference to Explore Tourism’s Role in Sustainable Development by GTP editing team 10 October 2017 written by GTP editing team 10 October 2017 0 comments Share 0FacebookTwitterLinkedinWhatsappEmail 52 Under the title “Greek Tourism: The Perfect Balancing Act”, the 16th Conference on Tourism and Development of the Greek Tourism Confederation (SETE) will take place on October 16 and 17 and focus on the dynamic role of tourism in contributing to environmental, economic and social sustainability. The official opening of the annual landmark event will be held in the evening of Monday, October 16, with a keynote speech by Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras at the Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Center in Athens. Opening on Tuesday, October 17, this year’s conference will present international best practices, analyze spatial planning issues and explore ways to increase the social footprint of tourism. SETE president Yiannis Retsos. “The conference aims to initiate a public dialogue between investors, entrepreneurs, senior business executives and public sector officials, who aspire to have an active role in the development of Greek tourism,” SETE said in an announcement. Emphasis will also be placed on the interconnection of tourism with the agri-food sector and its importance in creating comparative advantages for the Greek tourism product and consequently for the local communities. Keynote speakers include SETE president Yiannis Retsos; Visit Napa Valley president and CEO, Gregory Clay; Tourismo Lanzarote managing director Héctor Fernández Manchado; TUI Group director corporate and external affairs, Thomas Ellerbeck; Astrapto founder and CEO Aurora Dawn Reinke and Acropolis Museum president Dimitrios Pantermalis among others. The official language of the conference will be Greek, with simultaneous translation in English.
