Established in 2005, the European Enterprise Promotion Awards rewards projects and initiatives promoting entrepreneurship and small business at the national, regional and local level. Main objectives include identifying successful activities and initiatives undertaken to promote enterprise and entrepreneurship; showcasing and sharing examples of best entrepreneurship policies and practices; creating a greater awareness of the role entrepreneurs play in society; and encouraging potential entrepreneurs. The Greek Breakfast initiative was among 305 proposals from 32 countries in five categories. Since its launch in 2010, the project has grown to include hundreds of hoteliers across Greece choosing to incorporate local products into their morning offerings, upgrading their quality, promoting local gastronomic traditions and paving the way for financial benefits for local communities. To ensure the highest quality, the HCH selected accreditation agency Eurocert to be responsible for the certification of hotels serving traditional Greek breakfast products. Besides aiming to promote Greece’s local products through breakfast menus at a network of hotels and contributing to forming the tourist identity of each destination, the Greek Breakfast venture strengthens the collaboration between the primary and secondary sectors, with multiple benefits for SMEs, creating jobs and offering incentives to younger generations.
