Mitsis Hotels Receives ‘Green Key’ Eco-label for Second Consecutive Year

Mitsis Hotels, for the second consecutive year received the “Green Key” eco-label for its environmental program, implemented in all of the group’s 17 hotels in Athens, Rhodes, Kos, Crete and Kammena Vourla.

“Green Key” is an international voluntary eco-label for tourism facilities, which promotes sustainable tourism. It is based on international criteria, which foresee the environmental management of tourism enterprises and the education of employees, visitors, suppliers and local communities.

“The group’s strategy is connected to our long-term commitment for sustainable development; our main goal is for our products and services to have the minimum impact on the environment,” said Mitsis Hotels CEO, Stavros Mitsis.

The group is currently implementing an energy conservation program in all areas of operation; it supports the production of drinking water using reverse osmosis technology; it includes waste water treatment biological stations, while also implementing a recycling program.

Within the framework of its environmental awareness and social responsibility program, Mitsis hotels is conveying the financial benefits of its energy, water and raw material conservation program to the local communities through relief projects.

The “Green Key” label was created by the Foundation for Environmental Education (FEE) with the aim to educate and raise awareness on environmental issues. Based in Denmark, the Foundation is represented in Greece by the Hellenic Society for the Protection of Nature.

“Our aim is to inform and raise awareness among visitors and all participants – businesses, staff, local communities – in order for travelers to be able to experience tourism with the minimum possible effect on the environment,” said the organization’s president Nikos Petrou. “This way current and future visitors will have the opportunity to enjoy the same experience,” he added.
