Ryanair Aims to Become ‘Greenest’ Airline by 2023

Ryanair recently announced its environmental plan that aims to eliminate all non-recyclable plastics from its operations over the next five years.

“For customers on board, this will mean initiatives such as a switch to wooden cutlery, bio-degradable coffee cups, and the removal of plastics from our range of in-flight products,” Ryanair’s chief marketing officer, Kenny Jacobs, said.

Ryanair’s environmental plan is part of its 2018 “Always Getting Better” plan which for the fifth year forms its customer experience improvement program, including service, digital, ancillary and environmental developments.

“We will also introduce a scheme to allow customers to offset the carbon cost of their flight through a voluntary climate charity donation online,” he said.

Besides aiming to be the “greenest airline” and be plastic-free in the next five years, Ryanair’s “Always Getting Better” new initiatives to be rolled out over the coming year include a “Price Promise” – the airline will refund the difference if customers find a cheaper fare; a “Punctuality Promise” – the airline promises 90 percent of its flights will be on time; a “Simple Bag Policy” – two free cabin bag remains plus increased checked bag size for less; and connecting flights at Rome, Milan and Porto, plus long-haul connections.

Ryanair is also unveiling “Try Somewhere New”, a travel hub on its website that hosts exclusive travel guides and destination videos in seven languages.

“While we continue to innovate, the one thing that won’t change will be our low fares – which we promise will not be beaten,” Jacobs added.
