Athens Airport has been ranked second in AirHelp’s listing of the world’s best airports and airlines for 2018 based on quality of service, on-time performance, and claim processing.

More specifically, Athens International Airport (AIA) received a score of 9.3 for on-time performance, 8.6 for quality of service, 6.4 for claim processing and an overall 8.69. AIA comes after Hamad International Airport in Doha, Qatar with an overall score of 8.77 and before Tokyo’s Haneda Airport with 8.63.

Meanwhile, according to the same listing, Qatar Airways, Lufthansa and Etihad Airways were ranked top three airlines worldwide scoring 9.08, 8.57 and 8.43, respectively.

Greece’s Aegean Airlines came in seventh on the global airline listing clinching a score of 9 for on-time performance, 8.3 for quality of service, 7.4 for claim processing and an overall 8.19.

The poorest performers on AirHelp Score were the airlines Air Mauritius, Easyjet, Pakistan International Airlines, Royal Jordanian Airlines and WOW Air. In terms of airports, Sweden’s Stockholm Bromma, Paris Orly, Lyon, London Stansted and Kuwait International.

“The 2018 Airhelp Score shows that as competition stiffens between airlines, those that put passengers first will come out the winners in the long run. For too long airlines have focused on cutting corners and costs without regard for the people they serve,” said Henrik Zillmer, CEO and co-founder of AirHelp.

According to AirHelp Score, US airlines failed to achieve high scores primarily due to overbooking and cancellations.

Founded in 2013, AirHelp provides legal services to airline passengers who have experienced flight cancelation, delay or overbooking when traveling into or out of the EU, helping them claim their consumer rights and seek compensation.
