Greece-based cruise company Celestyal Cruises is presenting an exhibition on the history of shipbuilding and seafaring in Greece and the Mediterranean, at the Posidonia 2018 international shipping trade show in Athens. Held under the auspices of Posidonia Exhibitions and PAN Art Connections, a US-company specializing in the operation of museums, the exhibition is titled “Plefsis” (Voyage) and offers Posidonia 2018 visitors the opportunity to travel back in time and learn more on the history of maritime voyages and Greece’s strong connection with the sea. “The Greek sea and the islands, scattered in the Aegean and the Ionian, have shaped the maritime character of the Greeks through the centuries. The Plefsis exhibition presents 12 handmade ship miniatures, which are replicas of ships dating from antiquity to the early 20th century,” PAN Art Connections Co-founder Nikolas Kontoprias said in an announcement. The ship replicas were selected from a collection of 150 wooden ship models, which were constructed by mechanical engineer Dimitris Maras after a long research. Celestyal Cruises, a leading cruise line serving the Greek islands and the eastern Mediterranean, is supporting the exhibition within the framework of its Corporate Social Responsibility program, which focuses on activities and events related to education and culture. “It is a great pleasure to participate in the Posidonia 2018 with this valuable exhibition, which promotes Greece’s maritime history and power… We actively support events that contribute to the promotion of Greece’s culture,” Celestyal Cruises Public Relations Manager Froso Zaroulea said. The Plefsis exhibition will run until June 8, showcased in an especially designed area in the main hallway of Metropolitan Expo near the Athens Airport.
