Tourism Minister Rings NYSE Bell at Special Wall Street Greece Day Event

Greek Tourism Minister Elena Kountoura rang the NYSE Closing Bell on Wall Street, on Tuesday, marking the end of trading, during the annual “Greek Day at NYSE” event held within the context of the 20th Annual Capital Link Invest in Greece Forum, which opened in New York on Monday.

Images of the Greek flag were displayed on screens across the NYSE as its Executive Vice Chairman Betty Liu welcomed the Greek delegation and companies listed there as well as enterprises participating in this year’s Capital Link Forum. The event was televised to over 150 million viewers.

Invited for the third consecutive year by the President of Capital, Link Nicolas Bornozis, and Managing Director Olga Bornozi, Kountoura was a keynote speaker at the “Invest in Greece” forum, presenting the investment opportunities opening up in the dynamically growing tourism sector.

During a segment dedicated to tourism and hospitality, Kountoura referred to Greece’s impressive tourism figures over the last four years, which she said, were a result of a far-reaching national strategy for tourism development.

She went on to refer to a series of government and tourism ministry reforms which are creating a more attractive field for investment, and highlighted the opportunities that make Greece an attractive option.

Accompanying Kountoura, were Secretary General for Tourism Policy and Development George Tziallas and Greek National Tourism Organization Board President Angeliki Chondromatidou.

On the sidelines of the event, Minister Kountoura held meetings with US-based companies and investors and participated in an event with Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs, Matthew Palmer.

Palmer described 2018 as an “excellent” year for US-Greek relations, adding that the United States has made a strategic decision to work with Greece as  the “ideal partner” in efforts to ensure stability and prosperity to a “complex” region.
