Titled “Xanthi: Alternative Perspectives – From gastronomic experiments to a sustainable and just growth”, the conference will take place at the Elisso Xenia Hotel Du Nord between June 8-9 within the framework of the “New Agriculture for a New Generation” program of the American Farm School. According to the organizer, the conference aims to become a meeting point for breeders and producers; catering entrepreneurs; representatives of tourism companies; chefs; academics and scientists from Greece and abroad; food and travel bloggers; and international alternative tourism agencies that seek for innovative ideas and wish to experiment with new flavors and experiences. The two-day event will focus on two pillars: – the promotion of the indigenous breed of shorthorn cow and highlighting it as a cultural resource and marketing tool for social and tourism development. This will include a proposal to redefine the gastronomic identity of Xanthi putting indigenous breeds and other local products in the spotlight. – tourism branding, new trends in cultural tourism and wellbeing tourism, use of technology and the need for quality management and certification services in the tourism sector that lead to sustainability and fair development. It is organized by the Rutgers University in collaboration with the Agricultural University of Athens and the American Farm School. The program is implemented through an exclusive grant by the Stavros Niarchos Foundation.
