Photo: Maria Theofanopoulou Greece will celebrate World Tourism Day on Friday, September 27, with free admission to the Acropolis and the Acropolis Museum in Athens, and special events for all. The Greek Tourism Ministry is inviting all to participate in the celebrations and visit the archaeological site of the Acropolis, with free admission from 9am to 12pm. Visitors will also have the chance to enter the Acropolis Museum free of charge from 5pm until 10pm. Join the 15,000+ travel executives who read our newsletter Meanwhile, the ministry and the Greek National Tourism Organization on Friday will hold a special event at central Syntagma Square with popular TV host Giorgos Lianos. Participants will also receive printed material, promotional hats, blouses and bags, as well as take part in a draw for two airline tickets to Greek destinations. ‘Tourism and jobs’ World Tourism Day is commemorated each year on September 27, with celebrations led by the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO). Its purpose is to foster awareness among the global community of tourism’s social, cultural, political and economic value and its contribution to reaching the Sustainable Development Goals. This year’s theme is “Tourism and jobs: A better future for all” and focuses on the role of tourism in job creation. Tourism is responsible for 10 percent of jobs globally, while in Greece, the sector’s share in employment has reached 25.9 percent.
