Navarino Challenge 2019 Holds ‘Love Auction‘ for a Good Cause

The award-winning Navarino Challenge 2019 sports tourism event is holding an online “Love Auction” for a good cause with the contribution of popular international athletes.

Aiming to support three Greek nonprofit organizations, the auction, in cooperation with Sport 24, launched on December 11 and will run until the 2oth. It includes favorite items of renowned athletes and Navarino Challenge ambassadors.

Among these are the official jersey of Greece at the 1987 European Championship and a hall-of-fame ball signed by basketball legend Nick Galis; a signed jersey of NBA MVP Giannis Antetokounmpo from his first appearance in the NBA All Star Game and his first appearance with the Greek Men’s National Team; a front page cover of the Sports Illustrated magazine signed by gold Olympic medalist and world champion in still rings Eleftherios Petrounias; and the jersey of Greece from the 1996 Olympic Games with the signature of Panagiotis Giannakis.

In the auction you can also find signed memorabilia from athletes such as Grigoris Polychronidis, gold Paralympic athlete and world champion in boccia; Alexandros Nikolaidis, two times silver Olympic medalist in taekwondo; Spyros Gianniotis, silver Olympic medalist and world champion in open water swimming; Periklis Iakovakis, Olympic and world champion in 400m with hurdles, and Greek-American ultramarathon Dean Karnazes among many others.

All proceeds will be donated to the Institute of Preventive Medicine, Environmental and Occupational Health “Prolepsis”, and – through the Captain Vasilis and Carmen Konstantakopoulos Foundation – to WWF Greece and Karkinaki, an organization offering information on childhood cancer.

Navarino Challenge is a leading sports tourism event held annually in Messinia. It is organized by Costa Navarino, The Westin Resort Costa Navarino and Active Media Group with the support of the Municipalities of Pylos-Nestor and Trifilia.
