Reform Roadmap Sets out Greek Tourism Ministry Goals for 2020

The Greek tourism ministry has three wide-ranging goals to meet in 2020-2021 as laid out in the government’s national reform strategy formulated this week by the ministerial council.

Titled “Greece Forward”, the government’s national reform plan lays out some 134 priority actions to be implemented by each ministry in the 2020-2021 period.

More specifically, the tourism ministry will have to move ahead with the creation a legal framework for special interest tourism (by 2021) with a focus on the development of diving (2020), silver (2021), and climbing tourism (2021); simplify procedures for the licencing of tourist port (marinas) concession deals (2021); and improve tourism education and training (by 2020) through the upgrade of higher tourism education, the creation of a university in tourism and an institute of tourism research.

The public announcement of the plan is aimed at ensuring transparency, offering Greek residents a clear picture of works and progress made, and operating as a motivator for ministers.

According to reports, a special supervisory committee will be meeting each month to assess progress made on these actions and every three months it will submit an evaluation report to the ministerial committee.
