The Greek government on Thursday imposed a ban on swimming, underwater fishing and the use of private marine recreational facilities, as part of safety measures to avoid the spread of the coronavirus (Covid-19).

The ban was announced by the Greek Ministry of Maritime Affairs & Insular Policy following a a joint ministerial decision.

The ban of swimming, watersports and underwater fishing follows a series of measures announced by the government that include the closure of all organized beaches, ski resorts and allowing travel to the islands only to permanent residents.

Greece is currently in a national lockdown. The coronavirus has so far infected 1,514 people and left 53 dead in the country.

I fear that this will all go beyond June. There is no sign of the virus going. Greece is doing very well and must continue the lockdown.
I look forward to the time – hopefully in the autumn – when I can visit my favourite country in the world.

This very sad just before Easter. Are restaurants open yet? Will UK visitors be allowed into Greece (Crete) in June?

Hello Kim.
Restaurants are not open yet in Greece as the Covid-19 crisis continues.
We have no information at the moment on flights from the UK to Greece, besides the travel ban that is in place (until April 15) due to the coronavirus – https://news.gtp.gr/2020/03/23/greece-bans-flights-from-uk-and-turkey/
We all hope that by June this will all be over.
Stay safe.
Kind regards.
