Archaeological Sites Greek Archaeologists Want Museums, Sites to Re-open Safely by GTP editing team 27 January 2021 written by GTP editing team 27 January 2021 1 comment Share 0FacebookTwitterLinkedinWhatsappEmail 27 The Association of Greek Archaeologists is calling on the government to allow the re-opening of museums and archaeological sites with the implementation of health protocols and free admission for the first month of operation. Museums and sites have been closed for nearly four months due to coronavirus pandemic measures in place to contain the spread of the deadly virus. “Digital actions and activities online developed by almost all cultural services are not enough to meet the need of people for experiential contact with culture, something that became even more evident during the first quarantine period,” the association said in statement, describing culture as “a need, an expression, a breath of life”. The association goes on to note that cultural spaces, and particularly outdoor archaeological sites are absolutely safe, and describe the decision to keep them closed as “incomprehensible”. The association concludes that for the first month of operations admission to archaeological sites and public museums should be free and requested that the government formulate targeted health protocols for the safe operation of all cultural venues, including theaters and cinemas.
