Greek Archaeologists Want Museums, Sites to Re-open Safely

The Association of Greek Archaeologists is calling on the government to allow the re-opening of museums and archaeological sites with the implementation of health protocols and free admission for the first month of operation.

Museums and sites have been closed for nearly four months due to coronavirus pandemic measures in place to contain the spread of the deadly virus.

“Digital actions and activities online developed by almost all cultural services are not enough to meet the need of people for experiential contact with culture, something that became even more evident during the first quarantine period,” the association said in statement, describing culture as “a need, an expression, a breath of life”.

The association goes on to note that cultural spaces, and particularly outdoor archaeological sites are absolutely safe, and describe the decision to keep them closed as “incomprehensible”.

“Archeological sites in particular, as open spaces, are completely safe and it is inconceivable why there is an insistence to keep them closed,” said the association, underlining that now more than ever when schools are re-opening it is vital that students come in direct contact with cultural heritage and culture in general as an integral part of their educational process.

The association concludes that for the first month of operations admission to archaeological sites and public museums should be free and requested that the government formulate targeted health protocols for the safe operation of all cultural venues, including theaters and cinemas.

A very very important decision ! it is a “must” as we need to have archeological sites opened (they are opened space ) there is no danger with audio guide and distance respected
Let’s hope very soon to be able to re-visit with tourists Greece cultural heritage !
Thanks a lot
