COVID-19 Restarting Travel & Tourism in Greece Greek Tourism Minister Says Health Certificate Gaining Ground by GTP editing team 22 February 2021 written by GTP editing team 22 February 2021 3 comments Share 0FacebookTwitterLinkedinWhatsappEmail 16 The idea of an EU-wide vaccination certificate that will enable safe travel and help economies recover is gradually being accepted by more EU nations, Tourism Minister Harry Theoharis said recently. At the same time, speaking to Money Review of Greece’s Kathimerini newspaper, Theoharis added that rapid testing for Covid-19 is a “valuable tool” that will be utilized to maximise border controls. According to the Greek minister, the recent agreement between Greece and Israel for the open exchange of tourists who hold a vaccination certificate – known as the “green pass” in Israel – can serve as a model for additional such openings with other countries. He also said that Greece was currently in talks with tourism stakeholders in the UK and US. “It is important to have a clear and complete understanding of their plans, the strategy each country will choose for the opening of its borders, travel, etc. The only sure thing is that Greece will make the most of every opportunity to attract tourism and not just from the US and British markets,” he said. Looking ahead, Theoharis said he expects 2021 to be a better year compared to last, adding however that hard work, accurate planning and actions by both private and public sectors are required to ensure Greece’s brand name is associated with safety, security and quality. Reply Jacqueline Harrison 24 February 2021 - 11:50 I think that’s down to the UK government agreeing to the official vaccine passport which Greece are supporting. Reply Bob Fotoples 23 February 2021 - 11:52 What about Americans who can produce a vaccination certificate. I’m Covid free and about to get my 2nd shot.
