The announcement followed a meeting between Greek Tourism Minister Vassilis Kikilias and Central Greece Governor Fanis Spanos to exchange views on the region’s tourism development. During the meeting, Governor Spanos referred to Central Greece as a rising tourism force with cultural landmarks (Delphi, Thermopylae), ski resorts and many alternative destinations. “Our goal, with the cooperation of the Tourism Ministry and the GNTO is to strengthen our position and become a region known for its many destinations,” the governor said. On his part, Minister Kikilias said the Region of Central Greece is one of “incomparable beauty”, underlining that its destinations should be highlighted to attract visitors throughout the year. He announced that destinations of Central Greece will be included in the GNTO’s soon-to-launch campaign for winter tourism, alternative tourism and city breaks. Tourism campaign for fire-stricken Northern Evia Moreover, the minister made special mention to the ministry-funded tourism campaign for Northern Evia, which was devastated by fires in August. The campaign will launch in 2022 under a budget of 2 million euros. “The campaign will change the image of Northern Evia and support the residents and all professionals in the area,” he said, adding that tourism revenues do not only concern the hotel industry, but also small, family businesses, restaurants and shops. Kikilias informed that he would soon visit the area with Secretary General Dimitris Fragakis who was also present at the meeting. Fragakis informed the governor that the Region of Central Greece will once again have free participation in all exhibitions the GNTO plans to attend in 2022. He added that the GNTO is ready to implement the region’s promotional proposals in collaboration with Marketing Greece and under the guidance of the tourism ministry. The meeting was also attended by Central Greece’s regional advisor for tourism, sports and volunteering, Ilias Bourmas.
